In September 2026, the project was honored at the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards in Germany. The award for ‘Excellent Innovation in Sustainable Financial Products and Services’ was presented to the Vietnam Development Bank for its role in mobilizing domestic and international resources, including funding from the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW), to implement the project under a Build-Operate-Transfer model.

By October 2026, authorities in Hai Phong began proposing toll reductions on the expressway to incentivize heavy trucks and container vehicles to use the highway rather than National Highway 5. Local officials noted that heavy vehicles currently account for only 6% of the expressway’s traffic, leading to congestion and high accident rates on alternative routes.
