A Hanoi court has sentenced Nguyen Van Hoan to life imprisonment for murder and the illegal use of military-grade weapons. The conviction stems from a fatal February 2026 altercation with a neighbor regarding water runoff. 

Following a verbal dispute, Hoan used a large knife to stab the victim multiple times, causing fatal injuries to the heart, lungs, and liver. Hoan, who had five prior convictions for theft and drug possession, was apprehended in Phu Tho province.
