Hardware developments are increasingly focusing on high-capacity memory to support AI workloads and large language models.

Intel introduced Crescent Island, a discrete data-center GPU using Xe3P architecture designed for agentic AI inference. To manage latency and power, the hardware utilizes LPDDR5X memory rather than high-power HBM, offering configurations up to 480 GB of memory. The product is slated for release in the second half of 2026.

In the consumer and server sectors, manufacturers are also expanding memory capabilities. SIXUNITED launched an AI-focused laptop featuring 192GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory. Simultaneously, Micron demonstrated a 512GB DDR5 RDIMM utilizing Through-Silicon Via technology, which could allow servers to support up to 12TB of memory. Mass production for these modules is expected in late 2027.
