At the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony held at the London Palladium, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was awarded the trophy following a season in which he recorded 73 goals for club and country. This 70th edition of the awards, presented by France Football, marked the first time the event has been held outside of Paris.

Kane’s victory followed a highly productive campaign in which he won the Bundesliga and the German Cup, while also securing his second European Golden Shoe. His season also included captaining England to a third-place finish at the 2026 World Cup and winning the Gerd Müller Trophy. With this win, Kane becomes the first English player to receive the award since Michael Owen in 2001, ending a 25-year drought for the nation. His achievement also marks the first time a Bayern Munich player has won the award since 1981.

During his acceptance speech, Kane paid tribute to his wife, Katie Goodland, and credited his formative years at Tottenham Hotspur and former manager Mauricio Pochettino for his development. The event drew attention for Kane wearing a rare, “off-catalogue” Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Blue Sapphire” model.

France Football editor-in-chief Vincent Garcia described the voting as “incredibly close,” noting that Kane narrowly defeated Kylian Mbappé, who finished second. Lamine Yamal took third place and received the Kopa Trophy. Other major recipients included Alexia Putellas, who won her third Women’s Ballon d’Or, Unai Simón for the Yashin Trophy, and Vicky López for the best female youth player. Additional honors were awarded to Luis de la Fuente as Men’s Coach of the Year, Paris Saint-Germain as Men’s Club of the Year, FC Barcelona as Women’s Club of the Year, and Bukayo Saka, who received the Socrates Award for humanitarian work.
