The Hazen High School football program in Renton initially faced rumors of cancellation following a single game forfeit. Athletic Director Jesse Snyder clarified that the season remained active, attributing the forfeit to a lack of available players caused by injuries, attrition, and academic suspensions.

However, the school later officially canceled the remainder of the football regular season. Principal Craig Cooper cited the same issues—injuries, attrition, and academic suspensions—stating the program lacked sufficient varsity-level players to compete safely. The cancellation affects varsity, junior varsity, and C-team games, including matchups against Issaquah, Eastlake, and Skyline. The KingCo Conference has approved the forfeits, and officials are seeking alternative opponents for the remaining players.

Recent reports have characterized the difficulties at Hazen as a ‘culture problem’ rather than being limited to roster depth or injuries. This follows scrutiny regarding coach Marcus Carr, who reportedly left his previous position at Inglemoor unceremoniously in 2025. A public records request has been filed to clarify the circumstances surrounding Carr’s departure. Despite these internal challenges, Hazen played a game against Todd Beamer on October 16, resulting in an 18-13 victory for Todd Beamer.
