HBO and Warner Bros. Television are collaborating on an eight-episode original drama series serving as a sequel to the 2018 film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’. The production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with filming expected to take place in locations including New York and Singapore.

The series will feature returning cast members Constance Wu as Rachel Chu, Henry Golding as Nick Young, and Ronny Chieng as Eddie Cheng, with Michelle Yeoh appearing in a recurring role as Eleanor Young. While these key actors are confirmed, some viewers have noted the absence of Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr. from the initial production details.

Adele Lim, co-writer of the original film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. The creative team includes author Kevin Kwan, director Jon M. Chu, and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. By expanding the story through television, the series aims to provide deeper character exploration of the social complexities, romantic conflicts, and family dynamics within Singapore’s wealthiest families.

Recent updates indicate the series may explore storylines from subsequent novels, including Nick and Rachel’s wedding and the revelation of Rachel’s biological father. Constance Wu has recently confirmed that production is indeed slated to commence in 2027, with filming set to take place in New York.
