Sources: 9. Developments: 3. HBO has officially renewed the horror prequel series ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ for a second season. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, who is now the sole showrunner following the departure of Jason Fuchs, has indicated that the upcoming installment will be a “very, very bloody” season set in 1935 during the Great Depression. This setting places the narrative twenty-seven years before the events of the first season. The story is expected to focus on the Bradley Gang massacre from Stephen King’s fictional history and will incorporate elements of gangster films, such as bank robbers, Hoovervilles, and religious fundamentalism. New details suggest the season will follow a mystery involving a boy disappearing amidst a Cold War military plot, while exploring the social and cultural themes of the 1930s. Additionally, Ethan King, grandson of author Stephen King, has been revealed as a writer for the second season. Production is currently in the writing phase, with filming scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025. While an official release date has not been announced, the timeline suggests a potential release in late 2027 or 2028. Bill Skarsgård is expected to return to the role of Pennywise, with Kane teasing a new approach to the character. Executive producers include Andy and Barbara Muschietti, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-25: IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 to feature Pennywise and Stephen King's grandson HBO's ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ season 2 will set its story in the 1930s, feature Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise, and include writing contributions from Stephen King's grandson, Ethan King. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/it-welcome-to-derry-season-2-to-feature-pennywise-and-stephen-kings-grandson ### 2026-10-23: HBO renews It: Welcome to Derry for second season HBO has renewed ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ for a second season, which will feature a 1935 gangster storyline set in the town of Derry. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/hbo-renews-it-welcome-to-derry-for-second-season-1 ### 2026-10-16: Welcome to Derry Season 2 to feature 1935 Depression-era setting HBO’s ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ season 2 will be set in 1935 Depression-era America.
