Sources: 6. Developments: 2. As the heating season approaches in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, guidance has been issued regarding technical preparation, tenant rights, and energy efficiency. Initial reports highlight that the heating season typically runs from September 1 to May 31, with central heating generally activated when the average daily outdoor temperature remains below 13°C for two consecutive days. In the Czech Republic, tenants may be entitled to rent reductions if landlords fail to provide adequate heating due to system malfunctions. Technical advice for homeowners in Slovakia includes bleeding radiators to remove air from pipes and ensuring thermostatic valves are not obstructed by furniture or curtains. As the season progresses, the focus has shifted toward managing rising energy costs through efficiency. Experts note that reducing indoor temperatures by one degree can decrease energy consumption by approximately 7 percent. Common efficiency errors include leaving windows open for extended periods or setting thermostats to maximum settings, which only indicates a higher target temperature rather than increasing heating speed. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Energy efficiency and heating season regulations in Central Europe As heating season arrives, experts advise on energy-saving habits and clarify regulations regarding when central heating must be activated based on outdoor temperatures. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/energy-efficiency-and-heating-season-regulations-in-central-europe ### 2026-09-29: Heating season preparation: Radiator maintenance and tenant rights As heating season nears, experts advise on radiator maintenance, air bleeding, and tenant rights regarding adequate heating temperatures in Czech and Slovak households. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/heating-season-preparation-radiator-maintenance-and-tenant-rights --- Cite as: Heating season management in Central Europe.
