Developments: 2. Heavy rainfall in Mexico has caused significant flooding and infrastructure challenges, particularly in Torreón, Coahuila. Following intense rains, municipal and state officials in Torreón began distributing heavy-duty tarpaulins and rubber sheeting to families experiencing water leaks in their homes. While local leaders documented these relief efforts, some citizens criticized the aid as insufficient to address deeper drainage and infrastructure problems. As the weather continued, flooding was reported in several northern sectors of Torreón, including the Carlos Salinas de Gortari neighborhood, La Rosita, and the Torreón-San Pedro boulevard. Accompanying strong winds caused power outages and traffic light malfunctions, prompting State Civil Protection to activate emergency operations to monitor high-risk zones. In a separate regional response to rainfall, Tenamaxtlán, Jalisco, implemented a rainwater harvesting system called ‘Nidos de Lluvia’ at a local sports unit to promote water conservation and reduce reliance on municipal networks. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-15: Rainfall triggers water harvesting in Tenamaxtlán and flooding in Torreón Heavy rains in Mexico have led to the installation of a rainwater harvesting system in Tenamaxtlán, Jalisco, while causing flooding and power outages in northern Torreón. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/rainfall-triggers-water-harvesting-in-tenamaxtln-and-flooding-in-torren ### 2026-10-06: Torreón officials distribute tarpaulins following heavy rains Officials in Torreón, Coahuila, distributed tarpaulins and rubber sheeting to families facing home leaks due to heavy rains, drawing both recognition and criticism from citizens on social media. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/torren-officials-distribute-tarpaulins-following-heavy-rains --- Cite as: Heavy rainfall and flooding in Mexico.
