Initially, the agency released ‘Geotreasures’, a digital application designed to showcase the country’s volcanic heritage. This tool utilizes interactive maps to provide information on the South Aegean Volcanic Arc, including sites such as Santorini, Nisyros, Milos, and Methana, to assist with research and education. Following this, the survey launched Greece’s first unified digital geological map. This infrastructure consolidates 67 years of research, covering 131,910 square kilometers of territory. The database contains details on over 1,500 geological formations, including rock types, tectonic structures, and faults. Director General Dionysios Goutis stated the map is intended to serve as a strategic tool for infrastructure projects, environmental protection, and natural hazard management. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: Greece launches first unified digital geological map Greece has introduced its first unified digital geological map, integrating 67 years of scientific data to aid in infrastructure planning, environmental protection, and natural hazard management. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/greece-launches-first-unified-digital-geological-map ### 2026-10-20: Hellenic Geological Survey launches digital application for Greek volcanoes The Hellenic Geological Survey has launched ‘Geotreasures,’ a digital application featuring interactive maps of Greece’s volcanic sites, including Santorini and Nisyros. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/hellenic-geological-survey-launches-digital-application-for-greek-volcanoes --- Cite as: Hellenic Geological Survey digital initiatives.
