Municipal administration in Heraklion, Greece, has transitioned from routine developmental planning to political friction regarding governance procedures.

Initially, the Heraklion Municipal Committee focused on administrative and technical matters, including strategic implementation support, soil deformation studies, postal service procurement, and legal actions related to the Plastira Center.

Following these administrative sessions, the local government faced protests from opposition members and citizens regarding changes to the Municipal Council’s meeting schedule. Critics, including members of the People’s Rally such as Douloufakis and Androulakis, argue that moving sessions from 18:00 to earlier afternoon hours, such as 15:00 or 16:00, effectively excludes working councilors and citizens. They claim this makes the council accessible primarily to professional politicians and those with flexible schedules.

Despite these disputes, the Council is scheduled to convene on September 28 at the Eleftheriou Venizelou hall. The upcoming agenda includes the submission of the 2025 annual financial report, restructuring the 2026 budget, and reviewing the 2025 annual financial and artistic period reports for DEPANAL S.A. Other scheduled discussions involve municipal lighting, property use in the Chrysopegi area, the use of municipal property by the Skalania Motorcyclists Association, and the approval of a tourist sightseeing train operated by Tsalos & Co EE.
