In early October, the municipality launched student-oriented programs, including a road safety program at the Traffic Education Park in Nea Alikarnassos and the fifth annual ‘Pame Anakyklose’ School Recycling Marathon. These efforts aim to promote pedestrian safety and foster a culture of sustainability through waste collection in schools. By mid-October, municipal focus expanded to logistical improvements in the Loggia area. Officials, including the Deputy Mayor of Cleanliness, met with local stakeholders and business representatives to discuss enhancing waste collection and recycling processes. Proposed improvements include increasing collection points through an appointment-based system. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-14: Heraklion officials meet to improve waste collection in Loggia Heraklion officials and local business representatives met in Loggia to discuss improving waste collection and recycling, including a proposal to increase collection points via an appointment system. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/heraklion-officials-meet-to-improve-waste-collection-in-loggia ### 2026-10-05: Heraklion Municipality launches student safety and recycling initiatives The Municipality of Heraklion is hosting road safety workshops for students and launching its fifth annual School Recycling Marathon to promote environmental awareness and safety. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/heraklion-municipality-launches-student-safety-and-recycling-initiatives --- Cite as: Heraklion municipal safety and environmental initiatives.
