Developments: 2. High-end whisky auctions have seen significant activity involving rare Scotch brands. On October 9, 2026, a Sotheby’s auction held at The Macallan Estate in Speyside, Scotland, resulted in a bottle of The Macallan 1926 Fine & Rare selling for £2,125,000 ($2,807,975). This sale established a new record for the most valuable bottle of whisky ever sold at auction when measured in US dollars. The auction, titled ‘Live from The Macallan Estate’, commemorated the centenary of the 1926 distillation. The event featured 42 lots, with approximately 86% of items selling above their high estimates, contributing to a total sale of roughly £3.3 million. In related market activity, Bowmore has also seen notable sales, including a collection of every Black Bowmore ever released and a Bowmore x Aston Martin 1968 Arc-54. While high-profile releases like the Macallan TIME:SPACE Sherry Cask 20-year-old remain active on the secondary market, recent trends suggest that such releases no longer guarantee immediate profits for flippers. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-16: Macallan and Bowmore whiskies dominate high-end auctions Rare whisky auctions are seeing major activity, with a Macallan 1926 estimated at up to £2.2 million and Bowmore collections fetching tens of thousands of dollars. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/macallan-and-bowmore-whiskies-dominate-high-end-auctions ### 2026-10-12: The Macallan 1926 bottle sets US dollar auction record A bottle of The Macallan 1926 Fine & Rare sold for over $2.8 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Scotland, setting a record for the most expensive whisky sold at auction in US dollars. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/the-macallan-1926-bottle-sets-us-dollar-auction-record --- Cite as: High-end Scotch whisky auction activity.
