Developments: 2. A multi-vehicle collision occurred on the Mexico-Puebla highway near kilometer 46 in the Ixtapaluca area, close to the San Marcos toll booth. The accident involved a heavy tractor-trailer transporting cement that reportedly suffered a brake failure while descending a curved section of the road toward Mexico City. The heavy vehicle lost control, struck a retaining wall, and overturned, triggering a chain reaction that impacted at least six additional passenger vehicles. The crash resulted in at least two deaths, specifically the occupants of the tractor-trailer, and approximately 33 injuries. While initial reports indicated a high number of casualties, official confirmation regarding the severity of all victims is still pending. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions, with cement sacks scattering across approximately 200 meters of the roadway, complicating cleanup efforts. Caminos y Puentes Federales (CAPUFE) and emergency services responded to the scene. The highway faced closures in both directions, and authorities recommended using the free federal highway toward Puebla as an alternative route while crews worked to clear debris and remove the involved vehicles. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Mexico-Puebla highway collision leaves two dead A cement tractor-trailer overturned on the Mexico-Puebla highway, causing a multi-vehicle crash that killed two people and injured several others, leading to major traffic closures. 23 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mexico-puebla-highway-collision-leaves-two-dead-and-33-injured ### 2026-09-23: Puebla highway collision between trailer and taxi leaves one dead A taxi driver died following a collision with a semi-trailer truck on the Grajales-San José Chiapa highway in Puebla, Mexico. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/puebla-highway-collision-between-trailer-and-taxi-leaves-one-dead --- Cite as: Highway collisions in Puebla, Mexico.
