In Córdoba, Argentina, university professor and researcher Gerardo Gasparutti was arrested and charged with qualified homicide following the death of his wife, María Lucila Pagani. 

The incident occurred on June 14 near Villa Allende when the couple’s vehicle caught fire. While Gasparutti emerged largely uninjured, Pagani died three days later from severe burns. Although Gasparutti initially claimed the fire was caused by an exploding mobile phone battery, investigators dismissed the theory after finding no evidence of a phone or charger in the wreckage. Forensic experts discovered traces of combustible liquid, leading prosecutor Liliana Copello to order the arrest.
