Sources: 11. Developments: 2. Authorities in San Francisco de Macorís are investigating the August 16, 2026, homicide of 27-year-old Joel Muñoz Almánzar, known as ‘El Jevo’, in the El Cercado sector. The Criminal Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) recovered a pistol with serial number CNL412, which was voluntarily surrendered by 53-year-old José del Carmen Báez Olivares. Investigations into the weapon's recovery involved interviews with José Alexis López Núñez, who stated he was instructed by an individual known as ‘El Viejo’—a resident of the United States—to locate the firearm near a baseball field. Police are determining if the recovered pistol is the same weapon allegedly stolen from the victim during the killing. Preliminary reports suggest the homicide may have been motivated by personal conflicts regarding the control of controlled substance sales points. Two individuals, Jhasniel Estévez and Jariel Rosario Ramos, have already faced coercion measures in connection with the case. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-14: San Francisco de Macorís police recover handgun linked to homicide Police in San Francisco de Macorís recovered a handgun linked to the August 2026 homicide of Joel Muñoz Almánzar following a voluntary surrender by a local man. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/san-francisco-de-macors-police-recover-handgun-linked-to-homicide ### 2026-10-05: San Francisco de Macorís shooting investigation: five suspects linked to fatal shooting Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Héctor Luis Paula de Jesús in San Francisco de Macorís.
