On August 18, 2026, the Hong Kong Gold Exchange Trading System Limited (HKGXTS) was established as a joint venture between the Hong Kong Gold Exchange and TGX Technology Limited. Supported by Hundsun Technologies and Alibaba Cloud, the entity aims to build a unified trading, clearing, and settlement platform using a ‘Finance + Web3 + AI’ approach. Pilot operations for this new system are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. Concurrently, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) reported significant growth in its gold markets. Following a contract relaunch in July and a trading fee waiver effective until June 2027, the exchange saw record-breaking activity in its US dollar-denominated gold futures. This included a single-day physical delivery of 145kg of gold, the highest since the product launched in 2018.
