Initially, Lichter appeared on ‘Sat. 1 Frühstücksfernsehen’ with a significantly altered appearance, including piercings and a smooth face. This was later revealed to be a staged prank for the program ‘Verstehen Sie Spaß?’. Following this, Lichter made a live appearance on ‘Sat.1-Frühstücksfernsehen’ where he announced intentions to ‘reinvent himself’ and ‘start fresh’. During the broadcast, he requested that the show's hosts cut off his signature beard. This performance included a request for hosts Karen Heinrichs and Matthias Killing to cut off his signature handlebar mustache as part of his desire to change his image. Recent reports indicate that Lichter’s teasing of a major life change and a new look may involve the potential departure from his long-running show ‘Bares für Rares’. He has continued to make headlines for joking about a ‘complete life overhaul’, which includes the possibility of shaving his signature mustache. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: German television personalities announce career shifts and new shows German TV personalities are undergoing major changes, including Stefanie Hertel's move into comedy, Horst Lichter's dramatic appearance on Sat. 1, and Ralf Dümmel's new startup show. 21 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/horst-lichter-announces-personal-reinvention-on-live-television ### 2026-09-26: Horst Lichter features in television prank and antique valuation TV host Horst Lichter surprised viewers with a staged makeover for a prank show, while a bronze Zeus statue by Hubert Netzer was featured for valuation on ‘Bares für Rares’. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/horst-lichter-features-in-television-prank-and-antique-valuation --- Cite as: Horst Lichter television appearance transformations.
