The project involves an estimated investment of R$ 82 million, with R$ 70 million allocated for civil works, R$ 5 million for equipment, and R$ 7 million for furniture. The expansion includes a new 7,000-square-meter maternity unit featuring a pregnant woman care center, obstetric emergency services, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, and humanized labor rooms. This new structure is expected to increase maternal-infant capacity to 460 births per month, addressing regional demand that currently exceeds capacity. Moving services to the new building will also allow for the revitalization of the existing complex, potentially creating 100 new beds. Furthermore, the facility will join the National Network of Smart Hospitals and High Precision Medicine. As the only unit in the country’s interior selected for this modernization, it will integrate artificial intelligence and digital technologies to lay the groundwork for a future “Border Model Hospital”. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: Foz do Iguaçu to receive new maternity hospital and border model facility Foz do Iguaçu will receive a new R$ 82 million maternity hospital and a border model facility to expand maternal-infant care and integrate advanced medical technologies. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/foz-do-iguau-to-receive-new-maternity-hospital-and-border-model-facility ### 2026-10-20: Foz do Iguaçu to receive new maternity ward and smart hospital technology Hospital Itamed in Foz do Iguaçu will expand with a new maternity ward and integrate smart hospital technologies and high-precision medicine through Ministry of Health support. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/foz-do-iguau-to-receive-new-maternity-ward-and-smart-hospital-technology --- Cite as: Hospital Itamed expansion in Foz do Iguaçu.
