The Houston Dynamo entered the final stages of the MLS regular season seeking to improve their form after winning only one of eight matches. Following a 2-2 draw against FC Dallas, the Dynamo secured a spot in the 2026 MLS playoffs, marking their third postseason appearance in the last four seasons.

In the decisive match against FC Dallas, Héctor Herrera leveled the score with a header after Mateusz Bogusz had put Houston ahead via a penalty. However, FC Dallas secured a stoppage-time equalizer through a penalty from Petar Musa. Key contributors during the campaign included Guilherme, who accounted for 63.4% of the team’s offensive production with 26 goals and assists, and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, who contributed to 10 of the club’s 11 clean sheets.

Despite securing a playoff berth, the Dynamo entered a match against Minnesota United FC at Shell Energy Stadium following a winless run of six league games, which included four draws. At the time of the fixture, Houston sat in 10th place with 47 points.
