Preparations for the Huanggang Port checkpoint are entering final stages. Commissioner of Customs and Excise Chan Tsz-tat recently inspected the facility to ensure operational readiness, focusing on staff training and the commissioning of new lane equipment. The port will feature Hong Kong’s first unified one-stop vehicle lanes, allowing motorists to complete immigration and customs formalities in a single stop to reduce queues for private cars, coaches, and goods vehicles.

To support the opening, the Transport Department has released a fare structure for public transport, including seven franchised bus routes and six green minibus services. Notable connections include KMB’s overnight service NB73 from Sha Tin, the B10 from Kwai Chung Estate, and Citybus route B13, which provides the first franchised link between Hong Kong Island East and the checkpoint.

Emergency readiness has been tested through multiple large-scale exercises. An earlier drill involved over 5,000 civil servants simulating passenger surges, infectious disease cases, and a simulated terrorist shooting. On August 22, 2026, a subsequent stress test involving over 10,000 civil servants simulated peak passenger and vehicular flows.

A major pressure test completed in late August involved over 20,000 civil servants to evaluate passenger clearance and transport connections. This exercise featured the first test of a ‘five-in-one’ integrated vehicle lane, which reduced vehicle clearance time to approximately one minute. Security Bureau Secretary Deng Bingqiang noted the operation was generally smooth, with maximum transit times not exceeding 15 minutes. He also announced that travelers will be able to use either Hong Kong identity cards or Mainland travel permits for e-channels. Officials are now conducting internal reviews with Shenzhen authorities to finalize the official opening date.
