Spanish forward Hugo González has entered his second season with the Boston Celtics with a focus on developing a ‘winning DNA’ and meeting the specific requirements of the coaching staff. Following a strong preseason debut against the Cleveland Cavaliers and a highly efficient performance against the Philadelphia 76ers, González’s impact placed him among the top Spanish players in preseason plus-minus rankings.

During a recent gathering for the Spanish national team’s FIBA qualifying windows, González joined fellow Spanish NBA players Aday Mara, Baba Miller, and Sergio De Larrea to discuss the upcoming season. Acting as a mentor to younger players, González emphasized the necessity of maintaining focus during the demanding NBA schedule and establishing strict recovery routines.

His preseason performance also drew scrutiny following a game against the Philadelphia 76ers, where he recorded 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. A specific play during a fast break sparked debate regarding a potential traveling violation. While some observers argued the movement constituted a legal ‘zero step’ under NBA regulations, others suggested the play was a flagrant infraction.

As the new NBA season begins, González is highlighted as one of five Spanish players active in the league, alongside Santi Aldama, Sergio De Larrea, Aday Mara, and Baba Miller. He is expected to make a notable debut as part of a season characterized by high international influence.
