During a performance at ‘THE GREATEST ROCK FUKUOKA’ on August 29, the rock band Journey invited Hugo Valenti to perform as a guest vocalist. Valenti, a singer known for his physical and vocal resemblance to former frontman Steve Perry, performed the song ‘Faithfully’ alongside the band.

Valenti, who fronts the tribute act ‘HUGO The Ultimate Journey Tribute’, traveled from New Jersey to Japan specifically for the event. While historical accounts suggest band members once considered him a potential replacement for Perry in the late 1990s, the band’s organization ultimately decided his similarity to Perry might negatively impact the band’s identity. 

Keyboardist Jonathan Cain facilitated the appearance, which is part of Valenti joining the band for shows during their 2026 Final Frontier Tour in Japan. Valenti’s involvement follows a long musical career, including work with the band Valentine and Open Skyz.
