On August 24, 2026, six men were discovered in a mass grave in the Allassoyah sub-prefecture of Forécariah, Guinea. The victims were found in a forested area near the Kaléah military camp with their hands tied and eyes blindfolded. The Forécariah prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation to identify the victims and determine the circumstances of their deaths.

Following the discovery, Guinean civil society organizations, including Tournons La Page Guinée (TLP-Guinée) and the Front National pour la défense de la Constitution (FNDC), expressed grave concern regarding potential extrajudicial executions and forced disappearances. TLP-Guinée appealed to the United Nations, the United States, France, and the European Union to monitor the investigation, demanding it be “independent, transparent, and credible.”

By early September, the Front National pour la défense de la démocratie (FNDD) formally petitioned the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to intervene. A coalition of twenty West African civil society organizations also joined the call for transparency, requesting DNA analysis, autopsies, and witness protection. In response to the growing pressure, Guinea’s Commission for Defense and Security held an extraordinary session on August 29, stating that no definitive conclusions could be drawn yet and pledging to “shed light on the incident.”
