The academic and public holiday schedules in Hungary for the 2026/2027 period present various logistical considerations for citizens.

For the 2026/2027 school year, a ten-day autumn break is scheduled from October 23 to November 1, 2026. This break begins with a three-day weekend starting Friday, October 23, which coincides with the national memorial day for the 1956 Revolution. Although All Saints’ Day on November 1 is a public holiday, it falls on a Sunday in 2026, meaning no additional long weekend is created by that date. Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, November 2.

This autumn break, alongside a 16-day winter break and an 11-day spring break, has raised concerns for working parents regarding childcare costs. Options such as autumn camps may cost up to 100,000 HUF per child.

In preparation for the 2027 secondary school admissions cycle, various high schools and technical colleges in Budapest have announced open house dates, with most institutions holding events between October and mid-November. Prospective students are advised to check individual school websites, as many require prior registration.

Looking ahead to 2027, the public holiday calendar is expected to offer six long weekends. These breaks include a three-day period around New Year’s Day and a four-day Easter break. While Hungarian labor law mandates 11 annual public holidays, the specific timing of these holidays may affect public administration, service availability, and shop opening hours.
