The Hungarian government and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) have initiated efforts to strengthen cooperation in scientific development. Following meetings between ministry representatives and MTA leadership, joint working groups were established to address thirteen areas of collaboration, including talent management, university research support, and the management of national scientific collections.

Building on these cooperative efforts, the Minister of Science and Technology, Zoltán Tanács, announced plans for a broader overhaul of the nation’s scientific and educational systems. The government aims to double state funding for science to address R&D spending that currently sits below the EU average. While the government focuses on resource management and integrating innovation into primary education, the scientific community continues to debate issues of academic freedom and the potential for political interference in research institutions.
