HV71 has experienced a difficult start to their SHL season, suffering consecutive losses in their opening matches.

In their season premiere, the team lost 4-5 in overtime to the Malmö Redhawks. Despite an early 3-0 lead, HV71 conceded three goals in the second period. Captain Olle Alsing attributed the loss to a failure to follow the game plan and struggles against Malmö’s power play. This marked the club’s eighth consecutive season premiere loss.

Following this, HV71 lost 4-2 to newcomer Björklöven in Umeå. After leading twice in the first period, the team surrendered control, allowing Björklöven to score four unanswered goals. Coach Niklas Eriksson expressed frustration with the performance, while defenseman Andreas Borgman noted that the team played “too comfortably” and lost focus. The club has now conceded 11 goals across its first two away matches.
