The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has admitted a case to investigate alleged environmental rights violations in Córdoba, Argentina. This marks the first time an industrial contamination case in Argentina has reached this stage of the Inter-American Human Rights System.

The investigation focuses on the international responsibility of the Argentine state regarding the Porta Hermanos bioethanol plant. The complaint, filed by Vecinas Unidas en Defensa de un Ambiente Sano (VUDAS) and supported by Fundeps, alleges that the plant expanded operations without a required environmental impact assessment starting in 2012. Residents of the San Antonio neighborhood have reported various health issues, including respiratory, skin, and digestive ailments, as well as cancer and malformations, while also citing risks of fire and explosions.
