At the International Livestock Fair in Zafra, discussions centered on rising production costs, animal health, and the upcoming 2028-2034 Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) period. Spanish officials highlighted government mobilization of 1,174 million euros to support fertilizers and diesel, while regional leaders called for reduced bureaucracy and fairer trade reciprocity. Building on these themes, the upcoming V Luso-Spanish Congress of Extensive Livestock Farming and Rural Development in Salamanca will address similar strategic issues. Under the theme ‘Sanidade e Território – Confiança e Futuro’ (Health and Territory – Trust and Future), the congress aims to foster cooperation between Spain and Portugal regarding animal and plant health, commercialization, and the environmental and economic benefits of sustainable agro-pastoral systems. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-06: Salamanca to host Luso-Spanish Congress on extensive livestock farming The V Luso-Spanish Congress of Extensive Livestock Farming will be held in Salamanca on December 3-4, focusing on animal health, rural development, and the 2028-2034 Common Agricultural Policy. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/salamanca-to-host-luso-spanish-congress-on-extensive-livestock-farming ### 2026-10-01: Zafra International Livestock Fair opens amid agricultural debates The International Livestock Fair in Zafra opened with debates on production costs, animal health, and agricultural policy, while veteran commissioner Santiago Malpica received regional honors. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/zafra-international-livestock-fair-opens-amid-agricultural-debates --- Cite as: Iberian livestock and agricultural policy developments.
