Following a fire on May 25 at the Le Grand Café within the Ibis Málaga Centro hotel complex, demolition preparations were scheduled to begin in late August. The fire, which burned for 46 days, was officially declared extinguished by the Málaga City Council on July 10.

Demolition work commenced in early September using mechanical methods, including hydraulic machinery, shears, and hydraulic jaw demolishers. The project, managed by AGI Demoliciones, is expected to take approximately two months to complete the removal of the structure and debris.

The operation has caused local traffic disruptions. While the vehicle lane in the Pasillo Guimbarda tunnel remains open using protective screens, the bus lane is partially closed. Certain streets, including Padre Jorge Lamothe and parts of Cerrojo, also remain closed to vehicles until the works are finished.
