Labor tensions within Icelandair escalated in mid-September 2026 when aircraft technicians, represented by the Icelandic Aircraft Technicians Association (FVFI), voted overwhelmingly to initiate an indefinite strike. The union cited disagreements over wage structures and the rising cost of living, noting that direct communication with management had broken down in June 2026.

By September 23, 2026, a strike involving the Icelandic Aircrew Association was cancelled after an agreement was reached to halt industrial action that had begun at midnight. The parties have committed to a four-week period of intensive negotiations overseen by a state mediator to finalize a new collective bargaining agreement, allowing flights to proceed as scheduled.
