Sources: 5. Developments: 2. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted operations in the Gaza Strip targeting individuals they identify as militants. Early reports detailed the killing of two specific individuals, including Muhammad Jamal Mahmoud Abu Al-Shaar and Muhammad Abd al-Aziz Muhammad Nagar, both of whom the military linked to Hamas and the October 7 attacks. A dispute emerged regarding the professional identities of those killed, with Palestinian reports describing some as media workers while the IDF claimed they were militants using journalistic roles to obscure their affiliations. Following these incidents, the IDF released declassified information identifying 170 individuals killed in Gaza whom the military alleges were undercover terrorists rather than journalists. The IDF stated that these individuals held roles in various media organizations while acting as members or agents of groups such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The military asserted that “carrying a camera or vest does not give you immunity to be a terrorist.” Among those identified was Anas Jamal Mahmud al Sharif, a media worker associated with Al Jazeera and formerly Reuters. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-03: Israel identifies 170 individuals killed in Gaza as alleged undercover terrorists The Israel Defense Forces released data alleging that 170 individuals killed in Gaza were undercover terrorists affiliated with Hamas or Islamic Jihad rather than legitimate journalists. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/israel-identifies-170-individuals-killed-in-gaza-as-alleged-undercover-terrorists ### 2026-10-01: Israel Defense Forces report killing of two militants in Gaza The IDF announced the killing of two individuals in Gaza, including a Hamas fighter allegedly involved in the Shoham family kidnapping and another identified as a Hamas militant described by others as a media-務 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/israel-defense-forces-report-killing-of-two-militants-in-gaza --- Cite as: IDF military operations in the Gaza Strip.
