Leaders within the Igbo community and the Onitsha monarchy have emphasized the need for institutional renewal, unity, and economic reform.

In September 2026, Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, called for Ohanaeze Ndigbo to pursue innovation and economic development to remain relevant. Achebe warned against the risks of fragmentation and becoming an organization disconnected from the people.

By October 2026, during the Iru Ofala Festival celebrating the Onitsha monarchy, the Obi of Onitsha addressed broader national issues. He urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize addressing hunger, unemployment, insecurity, and medical services, noting that economic hardships have increased poverty levels. He also encouraged citizens in the South-East to participate in the 2027 general elections.
