IIT Madras is organizing the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. The examination is scheduled as a computer-based test to be held over three weekends in February 2027: February 6–7, February 13–14, and February 20–21. The exam will cover 30 papers, including a newly introduced Robotics and Automation paper. Significant syllabus revisions have been implemented, including changes to Civil Engineering and the merging of Textile Engineering and Fibre Science into the Engineering Sciences section.

Following initial reports of a postponement of the registration window, which was originally slated to begin on August 27, 2026, IIT Madras confirmed that the online application process via the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) would officially open at 7:00 PM on September 2, 2026. 

Candidates can apply without a late fee until September 27, 2026, while an extended registration period including a late fee is available until October 5, 2026. For Indian nationals, registration through DigiLocker is mandatory, and applicants are advised to ensure their accounts are verified before starting. Security measures will include facial authentication and integration with DigiLocker. Results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2027.
