To mark the 30th anniversary of its iconic FRAKTA carrier bag, IKEA is transitioning the product to use at least 90 percent recycled material. The update maintains the original design, durability, and affordability of both the 36-liter and 71-liter versions.

At least 70 percent of the recycled content is sourced from discarded food packaging and plastic industry waste, such as milk powder bags. To ensure the bag can carry up to 25 kg, a small amount of non-recycled polypropylene is included.

The manufacturing process has been updated to be fully automated, with handles now integrated directly into the bag to eliminate manual sewing. This change is expected to save approximately 89,000 kilometers of thread. Additionally, any excess material generated during production is returned to the manufacturing cycle.
