In September 2026, customs officials and prosecutors dismantled an illegal cigarette factory in North Rhine-Westphalia. The operation, which followed an investigation launched in May 2026, resulted in 21 arrests.

Authorities allege the criminal group manufactured cigarettes in a hidden facility, used counterfeit brand packaging, and sold the products untaxed on the black market. The raid involved multiple customs offices and specialized units from the Federal Police and the Customs Investigation Bureau.
