Authorities in Vietnam have dismantled separate human smuggling operations involving the illegal entry of foreign nationals.

In Quang Tri province, border guards intercepted a ring responsible for transporting Lao nationals into Vietnam. An operation initiated on August 29 led to the arrest of Hồ Văn Nghèo while he was transporting two Lao citizens without identification. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered seven more individuals lacking paperwork. Suspects, including Hồ Thị Khanh and Hồ Thị A Út, admitted to organizing the group to seek employment in Ho Chi Minh City. While nine nationals were previously processed, authorities are currently working to locate six additional Lao nationals involved in the scheme.

In Lao Cai, authorities initiated criminal proceedings against four suspects for ‘organizing for others to enter Vietnam illegally’. This case involved three Chinese nationals who had been stranded in Cambodia following the 2019 pandemic. The group reportedly used social media brokers to pay between $1,550 and $5,000 to enter Vietnam illegally. They were apprehended by border guards while attempting to climb a protective fence at the Lao Cai International Border Gate.

Expanding on operations in Quang Tri, authorities recently dismantled an organized ring involved in the illegal movement of Chinese nationals. On September 26, officials intercepted a seven-seater vehicle in Phú Trạch commune, leading to the arrest of two individuals, Lê Phúc and Trương Quang Hào, for organizing the illegal movement of four Chinese citizens. A third suspect, Lê Thị Phương Tâm, was arrested for transporting the individuals from Ho Chi Minh City to Đà Nẵng to facilitate the handover. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the ‘crime of organizing illegal exit from Vietnam’.
