Authorities in Galicia have conducted several operations to combat illegal fishing and the trade of seafood lacking mandatory traceability documentation.

In early August, the Guardia Civil Maritime Service in A Coruña seized 146.5 kilograms of illegal scampi at the port of Cariño. The seizure occurred after a 63-year-old man was observed unloading boxes from a fishing vessel and attempting to transport them via vehicle without proper documentation. The confiscated seafood was donated to a local food bank.

Following this, between August 10 and August 16, the Galician Coastguard Service conducted broader surveillance operations involving land and sea patrols. These efforts resulted in the seizure of 263.4 kilograms of various fish and shellfish, including octopus, spider crab, velvet crab, and bivalves. Additionally, officials confiscated 656 unauthorized fishing implements, such as octopus and shrimp traps. During these inspections, much of the live seafood encountered was returned to the sea.
