Following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, analysts have noted profound shifts in Israeli society. Reports suggest that the events surrounding his leadership and the October 7, 2023, attacks have exacerbated internal divisions, leading to increased social polarization and the normalization of extremist political rhetoric within Israel.

Sinwar, who assumed leadership of Hamas following the death of Ismail Haniyeh, was killed by Israeli forces on October 16, 2024, during a confrontation in the Tal al-Sultan neighborhood of Rafah. A prominent figure who spent decades in Israeli prisons, Sinwar was a central architect of the October 7, 2023, attacks.

In Gaza, the influence of Sinwar’s ideology is being observed in younger generations. The Israel Defense Forces released a handwritten letter from Sinwar’s ten-year-old son, Ibrahim, which contained both expressions of affection for his late father and violent imagery. In the document, Ibrahim expressed a desire to “hold a Kalashnikov, and shoot Jews,” accompanied by drawings of assault rifles, rockets, and Israeli tanks. The IDF stated the letter illustrates how Sinwar’s ideology and the Hamas glorification of violence impact children in Gaza.
