Regional initiatives in Japan are increasingly utilizing sports and wellness to promote social inclusion, multicultural coexistence, and community development.

In October 2026, programs focused on educational and reconstruction efforts. In Saitama, students engaged with para-sports representatives to learn about symbiosis and trust. In Ishikawa, an international futsal tournament was held to support Noto region reconstruction and multicultural coexistence. Additionally, Kanagawa announced an innovation platform to test sports and wellness projects aimed at solving regional issues.

By November 2026, the focus expanded to large-scale inclusive competitions. The NAGASE Cup 2026 in Tokyo hosted hundreds of athletes, including para-athletes from multiple countries, to promote diversity. Meanwhile, in Osaka, the Kirin Family Challenge Cup utilized walking football to foster intergenerational connections among participants ranging from age 1 to 91.
