India is pursuing strategic goals to increase its food processing levels from the current 16–17% to between 25% and 30% by 2030 or 2047. This initiative aims to expand value-added production, improve export potential, and mitigate post-harvest losses, which are estimated to exceed Rs 1.5 lakh crore annually.

To support this growth, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries is providing financial assistance for modern machinery, packaging, and cold-chain infrastructure. Additionally, the PMFME scheme has formalized 200,000 micro-entrepreneurs over the last five years, with further expansion planned.
