The Indian Bureau of Immigration has announced a policy change to streamline airport procedures. Effective September 1, international passengers departing from all airports in India will no longer be required to have physical boarding passes stamped at immigration counters.

This directive, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to reduce passenger inconvenience and prevent errors caused by improper stamping, which has occasionally resulted in illegible documents. Travelers are permitted to use e-boarding passes on smartphones for clearance, though physical passes remain acceptable for presentation without an official stamp. This move aligns with existing practices by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which ceased stamping boarding passes during individual frisking several years ago.

Additionally, officials have indicated that a pilot project is being planned to eventually eliminate the stamping of immigration entry and exit marks for Indian passport holders entirely, further digitizing the travel experience.
