The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating a cyber terrorism campaign that targeted 54 Indian central government websites via sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks aimed to disrupt critical information infrastructure and undermine national sovereignty and security.

In late August 2026, the NIA conducted multi-state raids across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Bihar, and Delhi. During these searches, investigators seized digital devices, including laptops and mobile phones, containing material related to hacking activities. Two individuals, including an 18-year-old, were previously identified in connection with the attempts to target digital resources.

The investigation, linked to the period of ‘Operation Sindoor’, is currently focused on identifying suspects who allegedly provided technical support and skill upgradation to the primary accused.
