Sources: 9. Developments: 2. India is advancing its quantum communication capabilities through the National Quantum Mission. The initiative began with the establishment of a National Hub for Quantum Communication, which recently secured its first industry partnership between QClairvoyance Quantum Labs and the IITM C-DOT Samgnya Technologies Foundation to develop infrastructure and standardization. Following these foundational developments, researchers successfully demonstrated the country’s first free-space Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) link. Conducted as a collaboration between QNu Labs, BISAG-N, and IIT Gandhinagar, the 5.56-km field trial utilized a pointing, acquisition, and tracking system to establish a secure channel. The trial achieved a stable Quantum Bit Error Rate below 5 per cent and integrated secure encryption keys with the Vedic Kavach platform, which employs post-quantum cryptography. This transition from hub-based infrastructure to free-space optical channel testing marks a significant step toward long-distance and satellite-based quantum-secure networks. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-03: India demonstrates first 5.56-km free-space quantum-secure communication link India successfully demonstrated a 5.56-km free-space Quantum Key Distribution link, a major step toward satellite-based and long-distance quantum-secure communication networks. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/india-demonstrates-first-556-km-free-space-quantum-secure-communication-link ### 2026-09-10: India’s quantum communication hub signs first industry partner QClairvoyance Quantum Labs has partnered with India’s National Hub for Quantum Communication to advance quantum key distribution and secure encrypted data against future quantum computing threats. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indias-quantum-communication-hub-signs-first-industry-partner --- Cite as: India quantum communication technology development.
