Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has concluded a three-day official visit to Russia, held from September 16 to September 18, 2026. This engagement marks the first visit to Russia by an Indian Army chief in eight years.

During the visit, General Seth met with high-ranking Russian officials, including Colonel General Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Land Forces, and Deputy Minister of Defence General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. Discussions focused on deepening military cooperation, professional exchanges, training engagements, and joint capability development. 

In Moscow, the itinerary included visits to the Russian Land Forces Headquarters and the National Defence Control Centre. General Seth also met with Vasily Sergeyevich Osmakov, the Russian Deputy Minister of Defence for defence industry and procurement, to discuss the defence industry and the maintenance of Russian-origin equipment. 

In Saint Petersburg, the visit included interactions at the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy and ceremonial honors. General Seth also met with India's Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, to discuss measures for enhancing bilateral defence ties. The overarching goal of the engagement remains transitioning the India-Russia relationship from a buyer-seller model toward joint research, development, and production of advanced defence technologies.
