The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the schedule for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026. The Tier 1 computer-based test is set to occur between September 30 and October 30, 2026, to fill vacancies within various central government ministries and departments.

While the recruitment drive was initially expected to fill 12,256 Group B and Group C vacancies, the SSC has since released revised figures. The number of available positions has been reduced to 10,731, a decrease of 1,525 posts from the initial announcement. The revised vacancy breakdown includes 4,412 for Unreserved (UR), 2,772 for OBC, 1,715 for SC, 1,028 for EWS, and 804 for ST. Significant departmental allocations include 3,687 posts under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), featuring 2,336 Central Excise Inspector roles, 1,400 Tax Assistant roles, and 595 Income Tax Inspector roles. Other positions include Assistant Section Officer in the Central Secretariat Service and various roles under the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

As the examination period approaches, the SSC has begun releasing Tier 1 admit cards in phases. These are being issued based on specific examination dates, with certificates typically becoming available two to three days before a candidate's scheduled test. The commission clarified that the absence of an admit card on the portal does not necessarily indicate an application issue, but is part of the phased rollout. Candidates must use their registration credentials on the official website to download hall tickets, which contain center addresses and reporting times. The admit card is distinct from the previously released city intimation slip, which cannot be used for entry into the examination center.
