India observed the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on October 8, 2026, with ceremonial parades and aerial displays at Hindon Air Force Station, Jodhpur, and Varanasi. The anniversary theme was ‘Indian Air Force – Unfailing, Impenetrable and Precise’. National leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, issued greetings to air warriors and their families. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the force’s integration of advanced technologies, noting its capacity to deter adversaries through the use of data and drones alongside traditional weaponry. During the celebrations, outgoing Air Chief Marshal AP Singh stated that the IAF has transitioned from being “platform-centric to capability-centric,” asserting that operational preparedness is the true measure of strength. He cited the success of “Operation Sindoor” as evidence of the force’s ability to respond rapidly to combat contingencies and defend airspace against drone and UAV attacks. Singh also highlighted the IAF's commitment to humanitarian efforts, such as disaster relief during floods and wildfires. The displays featured frontline assets including Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, MiG-29, and Tejas fighter jets, as well as Apache helicopters and C-17 transport aircraft. To address long-term security challenges and a shrinking fighter squadron count, the IAF is prioritizing indigenous development, including the Astra missile program and the procurement of Tejas Mk1A fighters. Having evolved from a small unit established in 1932, the IAF is currently ranked 6th in the 2026 global air power rankings. ## Claims - The Indian Air Force celebrated its 94th anniversary on October 8, 2026.
