Indian Creek Island, a 300-acre man-made enclave in Biscayne Bay north of Miami Beach, functions as an independent municipality known as the ‘Billionaire Bunker’. The community is characterized by extreme privacy, featuring its own police force, guarded bridges, and 24/7 land and sea patrols. Properties on the island are valued at upwards of $60 million, with some new mansions costing as much as $200 million.

While ultra-wealthy individuals such as Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Ivanka Trump have purchased significant property on the island, property ownership does not guarantee membership to the Indian Creek Country Club. Membership requires nomination by current members and approval from at least 75 percent of the 15-person board, meaning a single dissenting vote can block an applicant.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez have reportedly not yet secured membership despite owning three properties on the island valued at $234 million. While the couple attended the club’s annual dock party in February as guests, they must navigate a rigorous process involving two sponsors, five letter-writers, and a membership committee. Some long-standing members reportedly resist new applicants due to concerns over notoriety or excessive wealth.

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have also faced difficulties gaining entry. Kushner has taken a seat on the Indian Creek Village governing board and helped broker a deal to repair the island’s aging septic system in an effort to gain social standing. Ivanka Trump has reportedly attempted to integrate by attending club events and playing golf with existing members.
