Law enforcement agencies in India have intensified operations against criminal activity and the illegal alcohol trade.

In Delhi, individual seizures of illicit liquor labeled for other states have been part of a broader trend. Between April and August, the Delhi Excise Department reported that 730 people were arrested and 725 FIRs were filed concerning the sale and transport of illegal liquor, resulting in the seizure of approximately 2.20 lakh bottles and 197 vehicles. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated the government is maintaining a “zero-tolerance policy” and is developing a new excise policy.

Other regional crackdowns include an overnight operation in Chennai that resulted in 152 individuals being remanded in custody, and an encounter in Madhya Pradesh involving a suspect wanted for a “spurious liquor tragedy” that killed 16 people. Additionally, in Gujarat, authorities dismantled a counterfeit foreign liquor manufacturing unit, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
