The Indian Navy has engaged in multiple international maritime exercises throughout October 2026.

In early October, the second edition of the ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2026) concluded its sea phase off the coast of Zambales, Philippines. The multilateral drills, themed ‘Anchored in Trust, United at Sea’, involved naval forces from the Philippines, India, and Singapore to enhance interoperability. Participating vessels included the Philippine Navy’s BRP Jose Rizal and BRP Tarlac, the Indian Navy’s INS Sahyadri and INS Kulish, and Singapore’s RSS Justice.

Following these drills, the Indian Navy frigate INS Sahyadri deployed to Vladivostok, Russia, for the bilateral INDRA-2026 naval exercises. The program, which aligns with India’s ‘SAGAR’ vision, consisted of a harbour phase for professional exchanges and a sea phase scheduled for 16–17 October in the Sea of Japan. During the sea phase, units engaged in coordinated manoeuvring, integrated communications, helicopter operations, and medical evacuation procedures. Following the conclusion of INDRA-2026, three vessels from the Russian Pacific Fleet—the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs, and the tanker Pechenga—conducted a goodwill visit to Kochi, India. During this visit, Russian Rear Admiral Evgeny Myasoyedov met with Indian Navy Rear Admiral Prakash Gopalan to discuss ongoing defense partnerships.

By late October, the INDRA-2026 exercises expanded their focus to include combat aviation, drone defense, and search-and-rescue operations, with Indian and Russian pilots flying Su-30 fighter aircraft together. Concurrently, India participated in the ‘Vira Guardian 26’ exercises at the Jodhpur Air Force Base, featuring the first-ever deployment of Japan Air Self-Defense Force fighter jets to India.
